The department of English is part of the College of Basic Education of UoH and was opened in 2009 with a university degree from University of Sulaimani. It admitted students for the first round in the academic year 2009-2010.

In this department, there are two types of education:

• In the first type, the subjects are related to English language and literature and students are expected to be knowledgeable in such aspects,
• The second type is concerned with introducing students to the psychological and educational aspects of teaching children and teenagers and how to treat them properly during the basic education years of study.

Graduates of English Department are expected to have:

•   A good command in English language.
•   Graduates will be skilled about English language to be successful in the process of teaching.

The program of study in English Department consists of two types:

•    The first type consists of a number of subject matters about Language, Literature, and Linguistics.
•    The second type consists of a number of subject matters about Education and Psychology, to prepare our students to know how to deal with the psychological aspects of the students in the basic schools. 

The main language in this department is English .

The duration of the study is 4 academic year.
